How to get on the board

Scoring

  • Shade squares until no number repeats among the unshaded squares of any row or column.
  • Shaded squares may not share a side. Touching at a corner is fine.
  • The unshaded squares must form one area, joined through their sides: shaded squares may not wall any part of the grid off.
  • Circles are your own notes for squares that must stay unshaded, and the game ignores them when it checks the board. The puzzle is solved the moment the shading is right.
  • Shaded squares that touch, two circled squares with the same number in a line, and squares walled off from the rest turn red. Repeats underlines numbers that still clash; use it or not, your times count the same.
  • A hint fixes a wrong mark, or else settles the next square that follows by logic, and keeps that solve off your best time and the leaderboard. Your puzzle stays in this browser, one per size, and the clock only runs while the page is in view.

What qualifies

Wins only, ranked by time. A lost game is a lesson, not an entry.

Your scores are saved in this browser the moment a game ends. Invite a colleague from your profile and the two of you see each other’s bests — nobody else does. Nickname only, no email, no password.

Pro, Expert and Junior are skill levels we set from the game’s scoring. They are something to beat, not someone.
