Rules of the daily

All leaderboards →
  1. One game a day. The date picks the game and the par; everyone with the same date gets the same table, online or not.
  2. Par is the bar. Reach the par score (or beat the par time) in a game played today and the daily is solved. The house target is extra credit.
  3. Only qualifying games count. Wins for timed games, hint-free solves for Sudoku, any finished round for points games.
  4. Midnight is midnight. Your local one. Solve it before then or the streak resets — the ledger is unsentimental.
  5. Streaks live in this browser. No account, no sync. Clearing site data clears the record, so perhaps don’t.
  6. No prizes. You get a stamp, a longer streak and the moral high ground at the next stand-up.

How is the daily game chosen?
The calendar date is hashed into a number and that number picks one game from the pool of ready games with a points or time board. No server is involved, so the pick is the same whether you are online or not, and it cannot be rerolled.
Is it the same game for everyone?
Yes, for everyone on the same calendar day in their own time zone. A colleague in another office sees the same table on the same date; the day simply turns over at their local midnight rather than yours.
What does par mean?
Par is a decent casual result for that game, set by us from its scoring. Reach it in a qualifying game played today and the daily counts as solved. Beating the higher house target is extra credit for the ledger, not a requirement.
