Offline edition
  • Offline edition: showing your records and the house targets. Nobody else’s — we don’t make those up.
  • Nothing on the books yet. The first score is the easiest record you’ll ever set.
  • Kettle’s on. Pick a game.

Privacy

Written to be read on a break, not by a lawyer. Last updated .

The short version

  • Local Your scores, streaks and stamps live in your browser’s localStorage. They never leave your device unless you opt in.
  • No accounts There is no sign-up, no email, no password. A nickname is optional and can be blank.
  • No tracking We set no analytics cookies and run no tracking scripts of our own.
  • Ads Ads are served by a third party under their own policy, which may use cookies. See below.

What stays on your device

Everything the site remembers about you is kept in localStorage in the browser you are using: your scores and best times per game, how many times you played, your streaks and stamps, your office rank, the theme you picked, your break clock setting, and — if you set one — your nickname, avatar and whether posting is switched on.

None of it is sent anywhere by default. It is not synced between devices or browsers, which is why your laptop and your phone keep different ledgers. We cannot see it, and we cannot recover it for you if it is cleared.

What is sent if you opt in

If you choose a nickname and switch on “post my scores”, each qualifying score you set afterwards is sent to our leaderboard server. The request contains exactly:

  • your nickname (whatever you typed, trimmed and length-limited),
  • your avatar (one of the site’s built-in glyphs),
  • the score and the small extras shown on the board (lines, level, moves and so on),
  • a random id generated in your browser, so you can replace or remove your own entry later.

No email, no name beyond the nickname, no device identifiers. The pages that show live tops also ask the server for the current board and a count of who is around; those requests carry the same random id and the page you are on, nothing more. Switch posting off and nothing further is sent.

What our server keeps

The leaderboard server stores the entries above — nickname, avatar, score, extras, random id and the time posted — for as long as they stand on a board. IP addresses are used only for short-lived rate limiting to keep the boards honest and are not retained beyond that; the reference server keeps none at all. There are no server-side accounts, profiles or logs tied to a person.

Ads

The site is funded by a small number of display ads. Ads are delivered by a third-party provider, which may set cookies or use similar technologies under its own privacy policy to measure and, where you have consented, personalise the ads you see. We do not pass them your scores, nickname or anything from your browser storage.

Our ad provider and a link to its privacy and opt-out policy will be listed here once chosen.

Deleting your data

  • Everything local: open your profile from the header and choose Clear my data. It wipes scores, streaks, stamps and your nickname from this browser. Clearing your browser’s site data for Office Break Games does the same.
  • Posted scores: switching posting off stops new entries. To have existing entries removed from the boards, email the nickname you used to [email protected] and we will take them down.

Changes and contact

If this page changes, the date at the top changes with it and the what’s new page gets a note. Questions go to [email protected]. More about the site, the tops and the ads is on the about page.
