What this is
Office Break Games is an independent site of free browser remakes of classic games — the ones that shipped with office PCs, lived on floppies, or ate a lunch hour in an arcade — rebuilt for short breaks since 2026. Every game loads in a tab, runs on keyboard, mouse or touch, and ends in a few minutes. Nothing to download, nothing to install, nothing to explain to IT.
It is run by a very small team with day jobs, which is why the tone is dry and the feature list is short. The site is deliberately quiet: paper, ink, one red, no sound unless a game asks for it, and a break clock in the header that tells you when to go back rather than nudging you to stay.
How scores and tops work
Local first. Every score, best time, streak and stamp is saved in your own browser, on your device. There are no accounts and no passwords. Clearing your browser data clears them, so export a copy from your profile if you care.
House targets are ours. Each game has a par (a decent casual result) and a house target (a strong, practised one). We set both by playing the remakes; they are designed benchmarks, labelled “House target” and “Par” on every board, and never presented as records set by a player. Beat par and the Daily Table counts it. Beat the house and we update the ledger with a stamp.
Optional nickname, opt-in posting. If you want your records on the global tops, pick a nickname and an avatar and switch posting on. Nickname only — no email, no password, no newsletter. Leave the nickname blank to stay a ghost. When posting is on, each qualifying score is sent to our board along with a random id that lets you replace your own entry later.
Best-effort, unverified, no prizes. The tops are a scoreboard between strangers on their breaks, not a competition. Scores are not verified against a replay, nothing is won, and an entry that looks engineered rather than played may be removed without ceremony. If our board cannot be reached you see the offline edition: your records and the house targets. Nobody else’s — we don’t make those up.
Ads keep it free
The site is paid for by a small number of display ads: at most a few per page, placed in the margins and between sections, never over a game and never next to its controls. There is nothing to buy, no premium tier and no “remove ads” button, because there is nothing that needs removing. If an ad ever covers a game or does something it should not, tell us and we will deal with the provider.
Accessibility
- Keyboard. Every game and every page works without a mouse; controls are listed under “How to play” on each game page, and focus is always visible.
- Touch. Swipe, tap and long-press are supported everywhere, and phones get on-screen controls where a game needs them.
- Reduced motion. If your system asks for less motion, entrances, tilts and count-ups are switched off. Games keep only the movement that is the game.
- Light and dark. Paper or charcoal, following your system by default, with a toggle in the header. Colour-matching games pair every hue with a glyph so colour alone never carries meaning.
