How to play Flappy

Flappy is a one-button arcade game in the style of Flappy Bird. Tap to flap your wings and guide the bird through the gaps between the pipes.

It is simple to learn and very hard to put down.

Rules

  • Each pipe you pass scores 1 point.
  • Touching a pipe or the ground ends the game, and you can’t fly over the top of the pipes.
  • The gaps slowly get narrower as your score climbs.
  • Earn a medal at the end: Bronze at 10, Silver at 20, Gold at 30 and Platinum at 40.

Tips

  • Tap in a steady rhythm instead of panicking. Short, regular flaps keep you level.
  • Aim for the lower half of each gap: it is easier to flap up than to stop a fall.
  • Look at the next pipe, not the bird.

About Flappy

Flappy Bird was made by Dong Nguyen of .GEARS Studios in Hanoi and released on iOS in May 2013. It sat unnoticed for months, then shot to the top of the charts in early 2014 and was reportedly earning tens of thousands of dollars a day in ads before Nguyen pulled it, saying it had become too addictive. Office productivity recovered slightly.

Flappy here is an original one-button game in the same spirit: tap to flap, thread the gaps, and try not to say “one more”. We added medals at 10, 20, 30 and 40 pipes and gaps that slowly narrow as you go.

Questions

Is this the real Flappy Bird?

No. The original was removed from the app stores in 2014; this is an original browser game inspired by it, free and with nothing to download.

How do I play Flappy on a phone?

Tap anywhere on the game to flap. On a desktop, press Space, the up arrow or W, or click.

How is the score calculated?

One point for every pipe you pass. Medals come at 10 (Bronze), 20 (Silver), 30 (Gold) and 40 (Platinum).

Does it get harder?

Yes. The gaps between the pipes slowly narrow as your score climbs, so a run of 30 is a very different game from a run of 5.
